When I graduated from Lexington High School in 2006 I knew I was coming to UNK. I had no desire to go anywhere but here, but I never knew the experience I had waiting for me when I got here. My senior year I was the person in the class that you knew would always be there to make a joke about people I was graduating with who were going to join a Fraternity. I had no desire at all to join a fraternity. I had an older brother who went to UNK who's footsteps I was following. I came to UNK as a Criminal Justice major following him, and wanted to do everything like him, including not being Greek.
Following his footsteps all changed when I came to my session of Summer Advising and Enrollment. I met my counselor long before knowing he was a member of the Greek Community on campus. Unfortunately, I'm affraid I as a person would have had a bad picture of him if I had known he was Greek before I met him very well. Fortunately, I didn't know that he was and here I am as a successful student and a member of the best Fraternity on campus, Pi Kappa Alpha.
If not for my membership in the Fraternity I know I would no longer be in college. My mom was not sure that I was ready for a four year college coming out of high school because I didn't take school seriously, and she knows that being Greek has made me more successful. Being Greek has not only made me successful academically, but also improved my experience outside of the house. I have become much more involved on campus, which I know I would not have done, if I was not in this house.
As a Freshman I was appointed to the Student Court. The UNK student government is set up with three branches, and I was one of seven Associate Justices of the Judicial Branch. Recently I was appointed the Chief Justice and now overlook the Associate Justices and report to the Student Senate. I was also a Resident Advisor for the University Residential and Greek Life Office my Sophomore year.
In my free time I enjoy hunting and fishing whenever possible. I also spend time riding my motorcycle as much as possible. I also enjoy watching all sports, and I am an avid Boston Red Sox and Nebraska Huskers fan.
